On January 26, 2024, a meeting was held at the Stained Glass Museum in Krakow devoted to preserving the memory of family stories that are important for subsequent generations of the family, but also for the community.
Author Paweł Jaroszewski, referring to his own experiences and written family history, presented the connection between seemingly private events and the situations of the interwar years in Poland, in the so-called "eastern borderlands", in the Hutsul region.
The meeting took place in the Iza Żeleńska Hall in the Stained Glass Museum in Krakow.

In December 2023, an exhibition dedicated to the Anti-Air and Gas Defense League was opened at the Polish Aviation Museum in Krakow, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of its establishment. The exhibition included photos by Józef Jaroszewski along with his biography from the Jaroszewski family archive. The photos show a unique reportage from the exercises of the Anti-Air and Gas Defense League unit in Horodenka ((before World War II in Stanisławów Voivodeship, now in Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, Ukraine).

Opening of the exhibition dedicated to my family, composed of photos from the Jaroszewscy family archive, at the Pokuttia Museum in Horodenka - December 27, 2023.
During my stay in my hometown of Horodenka, the director of the local Pokuttia Museum, Andrij Kraviec, suggested he would like to organize an exhibition dedicated to my family, composed of photos from my archive. After returning from Ukraine, I prepared 29 boards with compositions of photographs from Horodenka, with descriptions in Polish and Ukrainian. and sent it to the museum. On December 27, 2023, the opening of the exhibition took place at the Pokuttia Museum in Horodenka. I received a report from the opening, the exhibition was opened by the director of the museum Andrij Kraviec and a local priest, the local intellectual elite arrived, and it was obvious that they accepted my ancestors as their own.

A short personal lecture on the importance of family stories for the general history of the country and nation..
(Göteborg, November 12, 2023)

Goteborg Dom Polonii 20221113 1035678   Polish Center in Göteborg

Based on the written history of the family, a connection between seemingly private events and the situations from the interwar years in Poland, in the so-called "eastern borderlands", in the Hutsul region.
Of particular importance in this context is the care of family archives, which, apart from their sentimental value, can sometimes be an extremely valuable source of historical knowledge, and on their basis it becomes possible to reconstruct unknown facts from the history of the country.
The author, by examining the memorabilia left by his ancestors, managed, over the course of several years, to obtain unique information, never published after World War II, which now allows us to recreate the relics of the Second Polish Republic.
Based on my own experience acquired while preparing historical materials, as well as many years of practice as a professional photographer, I encourage great care and attention in the care of family archives, as well as attempts to make such resources available in order to expand common knowledge about the history of Poland.
The lecture took place on November 12, 2023 at the Polonia House in Göteborg as part of the celebration of the November 11 National Independence Day.

In the spring of 2023, there was an opportunity to travel to Ukraine with a group of people from the Carpathian Society. I decided to go despite the ongoing war in Ukraine.
It was my way into the past, following the footsteps of places described so many times on the basis of photos, imagined so many times - a return to the past. I thought that if I could touch even individual details from the past, reach even one place, it would be a success. I didn't have high expectations, maybe because it was mainly about this expedition ending happily, after all, there is a war, I'm going where there is war, where people are dying, for real.
I prepared for this search - I printed brochures with archival photos typical of the places I hoped to find. I wanted to have these images in front of my eyes and try to superimpose them on what I found there.
This was achieved on an unexpected scale - I reached all the places and was met with great kindness from local people who helped me a lot.
The story of my search ended with a magical journey to the "places found" during a trip to Ukraine in August 2023. Indeed, this touching of places, views and emotions encountered there closed the stage of many years of writing down the history of my family, in the name of my spiritual need so that the fate of my ancestors would not be lost, because I could not allow it.
This was my life's journey, it will never happen again because I have no more stories like this to discover. Wherever I may go again, to the farthest corners of the world, there will never be such a journey lasting only nine days again.
The report from this trip is available in e-book form here

Below are boards presenting archival photos from the archive compared to places visited in 2023.

The archive of the Jaroszewski family presented on the YouTube channel of the Carpathian Society.

"Thursday, July 29, 2021, marks the 83rd anniversary of the dedication and ceremonial opening of the Józef Piłsudski PIM Meteorological and Astronomical Observatory on Pop Iwan.
By some miracle, after over 80 years, a negative with several dozen great photos from the opening ceremony of the Observatory was found, let's add a negative from which prints were never made. So we invite you to look at this celebration as it really was. The author of the presented photographs is the last pre-war commander of the Border Guard Commissariat in Żabie, Commissioner Józef Jaroszewski."

01 bielany

Almost 70 photographs by six authors - Adam Bujak, Wojciech Cachel, Jakub Ciećkiewicz, Paweł Jaroszewski, Adam Raszka and Tadeusz Warczak can be viewed since yesterday in the Kraków Barbican at the exhibition - "Camaldolese Fathers - 400 Years of Solitude". The four centuries that the Camaldolese Fathers have been continuously living in Srebrna Góra, currently one of nine monasteries of this order in the world, have, however, undermined the material substance of their hermitage. And so much so that it threatens the further existence of the monks in this place.

Kurier Wilenski promocja Wilno nr 229 27 11 2001

If you want to brag about Krakow, if you want to live, you should live in Warsaw, and if you love it, then Vilnius...
They said so before the war, and probably not without reason... Vilnius is becoming more and more popular among publishers of guides and albums. Three months ago, a guide by the outstanding poet Tomas Venclova was published in Polish and Lithuanian versions, now in three languages at once - Polish, Lithuanian and English - the world has seen an album with photos by Paweł Jaroszewski from Krakow and texts by Tadeusz Konwicki and prof. Dr. Hab Mieczysław Jackiewicz, Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius.
Two presentations of these editions took place: on Friday, in the Chodkiewicz Palace, i.e. the Vilnius Picture Gallery, and on Saturday - in the café of the Polish House. They also became an opportunity to discuss the city's role in the history of Poland, Lithuania, Europe and even the world.
Friday's presentation was certainly noticed by wide circles. The ambassador of the Republic of Poland in Lithuania, Jerzy Bahr, spoke at the event, deputy mayor of Vilnius Juozas Imbrasas, director of the Lithuanian Art Museum Romualdas Budrys.
There were also politicians. Kazys Bobelis, Andrius Kubilius, Rolandas Paksas were present. Even prof. Vytautas Landsbergis stopped by for a few minutes (traditionally, he was in a hurry, so he just sat in the distance and left the room after a few minutes).
The album surprised everyone with its colorfulness. The photos were taken by Paweł Jaroszewski, an artist-photographer from Krakow, who flew to Vilnius throughout the year to capture the city in different seasons.
The lyrics in the album are written by Tadeusz Konwicki, formerly of Vilnius, a famous writer who celebrates his 75th anniversary this year. Next to the comments of prof. Mieczysław Jackiewicz, Ph.D., born in Vilnius, current Consul General of the Republic of Poland in Vilnius, who is also the author of previously published guides to Vilnius and the surrounding area and the Ross Cemetery, as well as books about the cultural life of Poles in the Republic of Lithuania in !. 1918-1940, also several studies about Lithuanian
literature in Poland and Polish literature in Lithuania.
The publisher of the album is, one might say, also a former Vilnius resident, Andrzej Frukacz from Chicago (his father and grandfather come from Vilnius), the owner of the Polish-American publishing house "Exlibris".
The Lithuanian version was prepared by Jadwiga Bielawska, a long-time journalist of "Kurier Wileński" (Red Banner), currently a reporter for the ELTA agency.
The presentation began with great solemnity, with Ogiński's polonaise. It was performed by the Vilnius Chamber Orchestra (artistic director Zbigniew Lewicki, director - Zbigniew Siemienowicz). It played throughout the evening, with Andrzej Pilecki "soloing" at the piano. After the more official part, the new book was discussed over a glass of wine, a glass of white wine, and eating stuffed carp and... duck.
The album is now available in bookstores in Vilnius, Poland and the USA.
