JAROSZEWSCY everything I know about my family

Ladies and Gentlemen,

as fate would have it, it so happened that in addition to my main activity in the field of photography, i.e. developing original albums, I have been involved for several years in work related to family histories, personal biographies and family histories.
I probably gained the foundations of my skills in this area from my work (many years ago) at the Museum of the History of Photography in Krakow, where I worked as an archivist and many old photographs passed through my hands.
From that period I have retained a deep conviction that photographs should be described IMMEDIATELY – here and now – because when the last person who could recognize people in the photographs dies, it will be too late.

That is what I did – I described the photos from my family archive, but my mother did it earlier, in the years 2003-2013.
In the years 2014-2024 I developed a history of my family, the culmination of this work is a family saga, 424 pages long, containing over 1,700 photos and documents. This book is available in the resources of the National Library and the Jagiellonian Library (link to the e-book below).

The story of my search ended with a magical journey to the "places found" during a trip to Ukraine in August 2023. Indeed, this touching of places, views and emotions encountered there closed the stage of many years of writing down the history of my family, in the name of my spiritual need so that the fate of my ancestors would not be lost, because I could not allow it. I made this trip to Ukraine during the ongoing war there, and I found all the places that were in the photos in my archive. I met with great kindness from the local people, they provided me with all possible help. I wrote about this extraordinary, most important journey of my life in addition to the main family saga and titled this account:

During my stay in my hometown of Horodenka, the director of the local Pokutia Museum, Andrij Kraviec, suggested that I organize an exhibition in the museum dedicated to my family, consisting of photos from my archive. After returning from Ukraine, I prepared 29 boards with compositions of photographs from Horodenka, provided them with descriptions in Polish and Ukrainian and sent them to the museum. On December 27, 2023, the opening of the exhibition took place at the Atonement Museum in Horodenka.
I received a report from the opening, the exhibition was opened by the director of the museum, Andrij Kraviec, and a local priest, the local intelligentsia arrived, and it was obvious that they accepted my ancestors as their own.
On the walls of the museum, there is an exhibition with photos of my ancestors: great-grandmother Wiktoria, grandmother Helenka and her sister Zofia, and grandfather Eugeniusz, Anna and Józef Jaroszewski, and my little dad, everyone. Here, 50 meters from the church where they visited every Sunday, three kilometers from where their house was.
Then I understood.
They came back together, after 80 years, they came back home.

Archiving work in the Stained Glass Museum

The Stained Glass Workshop and Museum in Krakow has existed since 1902.
Located in the headquarters of the historic stained-glass studio S.G.Żeleński, the "living museum" offers a unique opportunity to learn about a functioning stained-glass workshop.
The permanent exhibition of the museum: The Gallery of Young Poland Stained Glass Masters is the only place in Poland where you can admire stained glass works by four outstanding artists of the early 20th century: Wyspiański, Mehoffer, Jastrzębowski and Stefan Matejko (Jan's nephew).

In 2022, a decision was made to archive (digitize) the stained glass projects collected on the 2nd floor of the building.
The implementation of this project was entrusted to Paweł Jaroszewski. A studio for photographing projects was built in the attic of the tenement house.
It should be mentioned that the stained glass projects are in the form of cardboard rolls at 1:1 scale, i.e. life-size stained glass windows. This means that the projects are several or even dozen meters high.
Within 4 months, over 1,500 projects were photographed and a project catalog was published. All reproductions are provided with detailed descriptions prepared by Muzem research workers and constitute a huge database of knowledge about Polish stained glass.
The catalog can also be viewed in digital form, which makes searching for information much easier.
The project of digitizing the archive of the Stained Glass Museum is the largest undertaking in the field of stained glass art in Poland.

In 2021/2022, documentation was made of Kraków stained glass windows by the most outstanding artists,
whose projects were realized in the Kraków Stained Glass Plant S.G. Zelenski.
The aim of this large undertaking was to organize an outdoor exhinition in the Planty Park in Kraków to celebrate
the 120th anniversary of the Stained Glass Workshop.

A project of boards with photos was implemented at the Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Kraków-Łagiewniki.

"Wyspański a vision realised"

In 2007, a large stained glass project was completed at the S.G. Żeleński Stained Glass Studio in Krakow - stained glass windows designed by Stanisław Wyspiański, originally intended for the Wawel Cathedral, but never made, were completed.
The idea of ??Andrzej Wajda, who wanted to give life to his designs, was taken up by the artist Piotr Ostrowski, and over the course of several years, three stained glass windows were created, which were placed in the Wyspiański Pavilion, built especially for this purpose, at All Saints Square.
The idea of ??building a pavilion was proposed during the Krakow 2000 Festival in 1998 by Andrzej Wajda, who also proposed that three previously unrealized stained glass windows by Stanisław Wyspiański be incorporated into the front wall of the building.

During the creation of the stained glass windows, rich photographic documentation was also created, and on its basis an extensive album was published in 2021 entitled "Wyspański a vision realised" (available at the S.G.Żeleński Stained Glass Museum - ► link)

„In---“Interpreting Wyspiański’s dramas on stage or even in cinema is quite a different issue than that of transferring his fine
art projects onto glass. However, it must be remembered that Wyspiański, despite having an absolutely brilliant feel for this technique, was not a stained-glass expert. There always came a moment when he handed over his projects to be completed by others.

During Wyspiański’s life, only a handful of his ideas were realised. One of the most painful disappointments, arousing continuous grief and bitterness, was failure to complete
the stained-glass windows for Wawel Cathedral during the artist’s lifetime. The idea of completing them almost one hundred years after his death clearly revealed two completely different (yet very characteristic for Kraków) stances on the issue: one creative, and thus ready to accept challenges – although obviously very risky – as expressed by Andrzej Wajda, and the other conservative and secure, adopted by the opponents of the project.

Long after creation of the Wawel stained-glass windows,
I created In the making cycle at the Stained Glass Museum, where the intention was to create or re-create – in front of visitors’ eyes – masterpieces that are significant for Polish – or, more broadly, European – heritage. Two other undertakings have been completed without the involvement of Andrzej Wajda, aimed at transposing Wyspiański’s designs onto glass. The first was completion of one of Wyspiański’s most outstanding concepts: Apollo. The Copernicus System.
The next was Polonia, based on a hitherto unexecuted project
for Lviv cathedral.”
